Who is eligible to join as a Provisional Bookseller Member?

An individual who is purchasing, has recently purchased, or is planning to open a Canadian independent bookstore with one to ten locations selling new books. The membership application will ask a number of questions about you and your prospective store(s).

    • Although CIBA’s programs and services are designed to promote the sale of new books, secondhand bookstores and specialty stores (e.g., stores primarily selling other items) are eligible as long as they sell some new books on an ongoing basis
    • Privacy: You can decide what information is kept completely private, shared only with fellow members, or shared with the general public
    • Administrator: The person who signs up for CIBA will be considered the membership Administrator and will be the main point of contact for important member communications
    • Additional registrants: CIBA’s membership software will allow you to register additional individuals in your organization as part of your membership bundle
    • Dues: Prospective Bookseller Member dues can be paid annually
    • HST will be added to your annual invoice
    • Payment options: For your convenience we accept secure payment by Visa or Mastercard. Alternatively, we accept e-transfer or cheque

Annual dues for Provisional Members: $150 CAD

When your store officially opens, we ask that you email CIBA at info@cibabooks.ca to let us know. At that time, we will change your status to Canadian Independent Bookseller Member and begin paying self-selected dues.

Once you become a Canadian Independent Bookseller Member, you will gain voting rights in the association and have access to CIBA's group membership with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. You can also update your public-facing member profile to signal to readers that your store is open for business!
