TBL Updates

Booksellers: Nominate the best kids’ books of 2026 now!

Building on the success of The Booksellers’ List, CIBA will launch an annual list that celebrates the top 20 children’s books of the year. Titles will be selected by indie booksellers across the country, with one selected as the 2026 Top Pick.

The annual list announcement will kickstart the holiday shopping season. This year’s list will be announced on Tuesday, October 6. We can’t wait!

Booksellers can nominate any English-language books suitable for ages 0-14 and published between January 1 and December 31, 2026. (As a reminder, YA/new adult titles are eligible for our seasonal TBL lists.)

Bookseller members can submit nominations via CIBA’s webform or NetGalley until Monday, August 3

Popcorn & Pages: The Odyssey

CIBA’s new partnership with Landmark Cinemas will create opportunities for indie bookstores around major book-to-screen releases, including promotional campaigns, giveaways, advance screenings, and other local activations.

The first title on the slate is Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which opens this Friday, July 17. The action epic follows Odysseus on his perilous journey home after the Trojan War and was shot entirely with IMAX cameras. The cast includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o.

The film is set to play at Landmark locations across Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. Booksellers can use the release as an opportunity to highlight Homer’s epic alongside other classics and contemporary retellings. CIBA members in relevant markets will be offered vouchers for use as customer giveaways, and a growing toolkit of program assets is available here.

Please watch this space for regular updates as we begin executing the partnership in earnest. If you have any questions about Popcorn & Pages, including voucher allocation for The Odyssey, please email Kayla Calder.

Supplier Relations Update

In case you missed it, we recently posted a fulsome update on the Supplier Relations Committee’s spring meetings in the Member Portal. Bookstore Members and Provisional Members can access the update here.

We encourage bookseller members to check this page periodically. The CIBA team will occasionally post ad-hoc updates from individual suppliers to help Bookstore Members stay informed about changes that may affect their businesses. For example, we recently shared an update regarding Jaguar’s new shipping policy—read it
here.

If you have any questions or would like to share supplier issues with the committee, please contact supplierrelations@cibabooks.ca.

Disclaimer: Supplier Relations updates are only for Bookseller Members and Provisional Member use. For the benefit of our work and collegial relationships, it is important that this information not be shared outside your staff.
